The liquidation price is the price at which the platform closes your leveraged position by force, because its margin no longer covers the maintenance margin. Enter your position above: the calculator gives its liquidation price in isolated margin, how far it is from your entry price, your initial margin and your loss at that price. The calculation runs in your browser, and nothing is sent.

The liquidation price formula

In isolated margin, a position is liquidated when its margin, less its unrealised loss, is down to the maintenance margin: a share of the position's value, set by the platform. Leaving fees and funding aside:

Long: liquidation price = entry price × (1 − 1 ÷ leverage) ÷ (1 − maintenance margin)

Short: liquidation price = entry price × (1 + 1 ÷ leverage) ÷ (1 + maintenance margin)

The initial margin is the position's value divided by the leverage. The liquidation price does not depend on the position's size, only on the leverage and the maintenance margin, which rises in tiers on large positions.

An example at 10x

A $10,000 long on a BTC perpetual, opened at $60,000 with 10x leverage and a maintenance margin of 1.25%:

StepCalculationResult
Initial margin$10,000 ÷ 10$1,000
Liquidation price$60,000 × 0.9 ÷ 0.9875$54,683.54
Distance from entry1 − 54,683.54 ÷ 60,0008.86% lower
Loss at that price$10,000 × (1 − 54,683.54 ÷ 60,000)$886.08

At $54,683.54, $113.92 of margin is left: 1.25% of the position's value at that price. The same short would be liquidated at $65,185.19, 8.64% above its entry price.

Each platform's maintenance margin

On Hyperliquid, the maintenance margin is half the initial margin at the market's maximum leverage: from 1.25% of the position's value on a market with at most 40x to 16.7% on a market with at most 3x (Hyperliquid's documentation). On OKX, the larger the position, the more maintenance margin its tier requires and the lower the leverage it allows (OKX's rules). Use the rate shown on the contract's page, for your position's size.

What moves the liquidation price

Fees and funding paid reduce the margin and bring the liquidation price closer; adding margin moves it away. In cross margin, the whole account's value serves as margin: the liquidation price then depends on your other positions, and the isolated margin formula does not apply as it stands. On Hyperliquid, liquidation is triggered at the mark price, which combines other platforms' prices with Hyperliquid's order book.

Frequently asked questions

Does the liquidation price depend on the position's size?

In isolated margin, with the same leverage and maintenance margin, no: a $1,000 position and a $100,000 one are liquidated at the same price. Size counts through the maintenance margin, which rises in tiers on large positions.

Why does my platform show a different price?

It counts fees, funding, your actual margin, your position's maintenance margin tier and, in cross margin, your whole account. The calculator gives the price without these effects, for a position in isolated margin.

Can a position without leverage be liquidated?

A 1x long only at a price of zero. A 1x short once the price has almost doubled: 97.53% above its entry price with a maintenance margin of 1.25%.

Are my numbers sent anywhere?

No. The calculation runs in your browser; nothing is sent or kept.
